Argyris is a filmmaker based in Athens and working globally, known for his gripping performances and compelling cinematic storytelling that capture a vibrant intimacy celebrating life and hedonism.
His first film, Bank Bang (2008) became a major commercial and critical hit, earning Argyris a win for the First Time Director Award from the Hellenic Film Academy.
From there began a prolific and critically acclaimed international career, starting with Wasted Youth (2011), which opened the 40th Rotterdam International Film Festival before screening at more than 40 festivals around the world, such as TIFF and Karlovy Vary among others. Then followed Suntan (2016), a devastating story of sexual obsession at the height of the Greek summer. The film premiered in Rotterdam Film Festival and SXSW, won the best film in Edinburgh film festival, the youth jury award in Brussels and a nomination for the Lux Prize of the European Parliament among others.
His latest film, Monday (2020) was his first English language feature, starring Sebastian Stan and Denise Gough. It premiered at Toronto and the Tribeca Film Festival, was released theatrically by IFC in the US and distributed by Paramount internationally.
With more than 300 commercials under his belt, Argyris is one of Europe’s leading ads directors. Noticeably, his social campaign for Lacta "Don’t Ever Leave Me" (2022) against domestic violence received Gold Lion for Change in Cannes, a category that celebrates culture-shifting creativity with proven social impact. Other advertising awards include, a graphite D&AD pencil, a Webby, a gold and a silver European Effie, and Awards in London and New York International Festivals among others.
